Port Grimaud et St Tropez

I'm a bit behind because I've been travelling a bit, but here goes.  On Sunday and Monday I went to Port Grimaud to visit my pal Jax.  The south of France is so close to San Remo it seems rude not to visit.  Anyway, I had a braw time and didn't realise Port Grimaud was so close to St Tropez.  I thought St Tropez was going to be just like Monaco, a bit pretentious etc, but I loved it.  It is basically a small fishing town, a gorgeous one though and great for people watching.  Definitely one of my favourite places so far.  We went out sailing too in a bespoke sailing boat where everything is controlled electronically.  So the sails are brought down (wrong terminology I'm sure) by just pressing a button.  Although the electronics couldn't save the boat from being stuck in a pile of sand when trying to sail out of the port.  The dashing French 'sailing police' speedboated their way to our rescue and we all had to dangle our bodies off one side of the boat to try to made the boat budge.  Worringly that worked, need to lay off the pasta!

I think the Italians think a ghost has walked into San Remo.

I've been staying on top of a mountain since Sunday so it's been hard to reach the internet.  Everything is going well so far though.  The view from our villa is Monaco from the back window and Italian flower fields from the front window. Beautiful.  We got the train to Monaco from Ventimiglia, it only took 20 minutes and the views were amazing.  An American Nazi hunter sat next to us on the train and started quizzing us about how right wing we were!  I loved Monaco though.

The weather is gorgeous, although it gets chilly up the mountain in the evening.  The mosquitos are ravishing me.

The Italians keep speaking to me in French, it must be obvious i'm not Italian!!, although I am speaking it lots and they seem to understand....They seem more keen to practice their English with me or maybe they just want the conversation over quicker!

I've been going to the job centres in San Remo nearly every day, but they keep telling me 'in Italy, it's not what you know, it's who you know'.  I can only imagine who they are referring to!  Still I think I have some work experience lined up in a flower market starting on Tuesday.

The girl in the tourist office is my new bff.  I'm virtually stalking her, every day I have more questions for her.  The Italians have been so warm, friendly and helpful though apart from when they are driving!
